Why A Vermont Christian School Is Ruled Ineligible For Future Tournament Play…Refusing To Play School With Transgender Player

(3-15-23) Mid-Vermont Christian school has been ruled ineligible to compete in future Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) tournaments due to it refusing to play Long Trail in a recent tournament game with a transgender member of the girls basketball team.

Mid-Vermont Christian was sent a letter informing them of the decision by the VPA’s Executive Committee, Diversity Equity and Inclusion in Activities Committee and our Activity Standards Committee about the associations ruling (unanimous 15-0 decision).

The letter included the reasoning– The result was a determination that policies have been violated at the school level, thus there is an immediate determination of ineligibility for Mid-Vermont Christian in VPA sanctioned activities and tournaments going forward.

Jay Nichols, the executive director of the Vermont Principals’ Association told the VTDigger

“If you don’t want to follow VPA rules, that’s fine. But then you’re just not a VPA member. It’s fairly simple. That’s really all we’re gonna really say about it.”
