(7-11-23) At last night’s Celina Board of Education meeting Celina baseball coach John Dorner was rehired.

Statement from Dr. Ken Schmiesing –

The Celina City School Board did approve all of the athletic coaching supplemental contracts last night as part of the consensus Agenda. The consensus vote was 4 – 1.

The lone no vote was from board member Mark Huelsman.

The process and approval of extending Dorner lit up social media. Recently parents of Celina baseball players have shown concern and shared their views with BOE members and school administrators. about the problems they have seen. Assistant coaches were not discussed, last year’s coaches apparently have been let go and will not be considered.

In a June 26th email to the Mercer County Outlook Celina City Schools Superintendent Ken Schmiesing said –

Our AD, Derek Wenning, is planning to include the ’24 spring sports supplementals on the July Board meeting Agenda.

Dorner was the only spring sport coach listed to be renewed at last night’s meeting, the remaining coaches approved were from winter sports.

Last night’s meeting date was changed without much fanfare from July 17th to last night.
