(9-3-23) Week 2 of the 2023 Illinois high school football season is in the books. It was another tough week for the Illinois Independent Conference (IIC) members…going 1-8 in non-conference games.

The first IIC conference game was played this week with Belleville Althoff Catholic beating Decatur St. Teresa 46-13. Althoff Catholic is the only IIC team with an unblemished record at 2-0. Seven IIC teams are 0-2 on the season.

Collinsville picked up the only non-conference game win over Centralia 34-14.

Did you know?

Collinsville was making their unofficial debut in the South Seven conference, playing with Granite City in a two-year trial basis, after which the league’s athletic directors will decide to admit both schools for football, starting in 2025. Presently just five schools are playing football in the South Seven, including Carbondale, Marion, Cahokia, Centralia and Mt. Vernon.

Why The SSN’s Illinois Independent Conference????

To add a little extra excitement for the Illinois high school football teams playing an independent schedule. It is tough being an independent in Illinois.

All 11 Illinois independent high schools are included, Won-Lost records, weekly scores, highlights, all-independent team will be named at the end of the year. The IIC is not an actual conference but it hopes to provided the benefit of one.

This is just a way for SSN to promote these student-athletes. SSN hopes that all the schools will enjoy this during the season.
