Euclid Schools Friday night football faces issues for 2nd week, no longer facing Solon in Week 8

(10-4-23) Safety issues at High School football games across the nation, including shooting and small riots that seem to happen on a weekly basis…this week an Ohio school, Solon, decided it was unsafe to play at Euclid and have forfeited the game.

Solon School District statement on decision to not play Euclid on Friday night and forfeit the game instead—
“After extensive conversations between Euclid and Solon administrators, Solon has determined that our football team, band/dance team, cheerleaders, and fans will not travel to Euclid Friday night. This decision was not made lightly, as we take the safety and well-being of our students and community very seriously. Given the events that occurred last week around Euclid High School, we believe this is the safest course of action. The SHS administration offered to host Friday’s game and provide Euclid every opportunity to honor their student-athletes and band members for their senior night.”

Here is the recap of Friday night’s situation—-
- The Friday night football game between Euclid Panthers and Solon Comets will not take place this week.
- Solon has chosen to “forfeit” the game rather than make the journey to Euclid’s stadium.
- Solon offered to host the game and provide Euclid every opportunity to honor their student athletes and band members for their Senior Night.
- This is the second game this year to be moved due to safety concerns from Euclid’s opposing team.
- Euclid Schools are actively attempting to schedule another game for Friday in hopes to celebrate their seniors.
Conference and Playoff look…
Both Cuyahoga County schools compete in the Greater Cleveland Conference.
The top 16 schools in each region qualifies for the state playoffs.
Euclid (1-6) is a D I school in Region I and is #14 in the OHSAA Playoff ranking , while Solon, who is 1-6 on the season, is ranked #20 in D II Region 5
