(10-16-23) It is that time of the year when Ohio High School has its fall state championships. Schools, coaches, student-athletes and fans look forward to competing for a state title. While the OHSAA looks forward to filling their pockets with the majority of the ticket money going to them and the host school getting a very small amount for hosting the game.

The state legislature in its current budget made it possible for fans to pay cash at the gate instead of buying a digital ticket on line. So now member schools who take cash at the gate for playoff games will have to show the OHSAA proof that they took cash ‘We still need to get email or phone number and then scan even with cash sales‘. It seems the OHSAA doesn’t trust its member schools to report cash sales. It might be a good time for the state legislature to fine tune the ‘non-profit‘ OHSAA in both ticket sales and hoarding income at the expense of the member schools.

Take a look at the most recent financial statement that appears in the September 29th board minutes

It shouldn’t be a burden on host schools to take the brunt financially during the playoffs…the more your team wins the more the OHSAA cashes in on them, while the schools dig a small ‘money pit’ for moving on in the tournament.

It is time for the OHSAA to work for member schools…not the other way around.
