(10-18-23) This past Friday night Celina beat Defiance to clinch a share of its first Western Buckeye League football title for the first time since the 1995 season. A win Friday over Wapakoneta would give Celina the outright title.

WBL Football Titles (8): 2023,1995, 94, 83, 68, 65, 51, 1939

Celina, a charter member of the WBL, won its first title in 1939…84 years ago. So this past season is one to remember.

The 1995 team, coached by Jerry Harris, was very special and featured a group of kids who had won back to back titles. The year before Celina was on a roll when in the 9th game of the season QB Mike Bath broke his leg in the Elida game,

Celina didn’t forget that game that sidelined Celina the season before…handling Elida 66-6. That was the kind of team Celina was.

That did not stop Celina from having one of the all-time great seasons…going 12-1 and three games into the playoffs before losing to eventual state champion Dublin Scioto 28-14.
