(12-3-23) With the football season completed this past weekend and the start of basketball season already happening it is time to look at what the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Administration and Board is considering.

Adding two or possibly three new basketball divisions to the current four division set-up.

At this time the OHSAA has not released any detailed information on a possible change.

In late October OHSAA spokesperson Tim Stried told WFMJ 21 Sports

“there have been some discussions about expanding the number of divisions in several sports, but there haven’t been any decisions.”

Releasing the plan to member schools and basketball coaches to consider would be a step forward in communication with the OHSAA. Allowing schools to vote on these types of changes should be a must in the future.

When it was decided to double the size of teams in each region in football the OHSAA made that decision and decided not to take the input from high school football coaches and moved forward with the plan. Member schools were not given the opportunity to vote on the football change, the same will be true about adding divisions in basketball.
