(12-19-23) Marion Local this past football season won their 3rd consecutive high school football state title. While the Flyers celebrate that accomplishment school officials were hoping for donations from the community to pay for the cost for the success.

The Flyers played 6 playoff games this year…the OHSAA kept all of the ticket money, as they do for every playoff game played in the state. They no longer assist in travel expenses for any team. Plus every school in the state pays participation fees for every sport they play and includes football.

The OHSAA added on extra playoff round after doubling the number of schools that qualify for the playoffs. That proposal was despite the numerous football coaches objections. The extra round made extra income for the ‘non-profit’ OHSAA. During this time ticket prices were increased, which this year brought the state legislature to look at the situation.

All of the above mentioned OHSAA changes were approved by the boardnot by the membership.

Marion Local has won 14 state championships, including three consecutive titles in Canton.

For any school located on the west side of the state to travel for the championship game on the east side of the state can only be expensive.

Superintendent Mike Pohlman

The donations were just for the trip to Canton.

The trip was paid for by a combination of the schools money, donations from our community, and money we received from the state via OHSAA.
