(12-31-23) Thanks to social media an incident that took place in a boys basketball game at the Eldorado (Illinois) Holiday Tournament is being dealt with.
The Eldorado Community School District is holding a special school board meeting on Tuesday to discuss the incident durinng the Eldorado Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament. The agenda includes the possibility of suspending or terminating the coaches.

The school district has been in contact and is working with the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) on possible punishment.
No word if the game officials are also being looked at for their non-actions during the incident that took place on a free throw shot. No foul was called or play stopped for several seconds after an injured Hamilton County player had trouble getting up.
Eldorado Schools responded to the TXitter video that appeared on Friday with an official statement –
“Eldorado High School is actively addressing the recent incident during the Eagles vs. Foxes boys varsity basketball game. Our administration is conducting a thorough investigation in collaboration with officials from both schools. Eldorado CUSD 4 will not tolerate the unsportsmanlike behavior displayed during Thursday’s game and the student involved will face appropriate consequences. Immediately after the game, Eldorado promptly reported the incident to the Illinois High School Athletic Association and is in close cooperation with them. For confidentiality reasons, we refrain from commenting on specific disciplinary actions regarding students or staff.“
The boys basketball game with Mt. Carmel that was scheduled for Tuesday night has been cancelled in favor of holding the BOE meeting.

There’s also concern over whether this type of aggressive play is taught and encouraged. In talking to community members around the region, some say this has been common practice for decades. Some other area coaches even prepare for it. In previewing the season at a Carmi Kiwanis meeting in November, Bulldogs Coach Kevin Wolff said he has a player on his bench specifically to deal with aggression from Eldorado’s “enforcer”.
