(2-7-24) The Columbus City League could be facing an issue to decide who will play in the City League Boys Basketball Championship game.

The issue is game limits…according to the OHSAA Basketball Regulations –

Regular season games — Maximum of 22 games.

The school in question is Linden-McKinley, they are presently 15-6 and are scheduled to play Whetstone on Friday….that makes it 22 games.

The Panthers are in a 1st place tie with Northland in the North Division with 12-1 CCL records. According to MaxPreps the Vikings will only play 19 games.

Columbus South is at 13-0 in the South Division and in 1st place, according to MaxPreps the Bulldogs will only have 20 games and can play in the Championship game.

In a tweet yesterday (see above)…would the OHSAA grant a wavier to Linden-McKinley to play in the championship game…and still be allowed to participate in the state tournament?

Let’s see if the OHSAA feels this is in the best interest of the kids to grant a waiver if it is needed for Linden-McKinley to play for a City title. The OHSAA added another football playoff game and will probably add three more divisions in basketball…under the premise that this is in the best interest of the kids. Granting the extra game allows for a good experience for the school, team and fans…and a possible City title.

Time will tell what takes place.
