(10-30-24) Danville has filed a complaint after their OT loss in the Indiana Sectionals to Brebeauf 50-49.
On Brebeuf’s possession in OT, Maverick Geske appeared to be tackled on 4th-and-6. The ball squirted loose and was covered. Several Danville players ran on the field. A penalty flag wasn’t thrown immediately, but after the officials discussed the play for two minutes a penalty was called. After the flag, Brebeuf scored on a 3-yard TD run by C.J. Harris and won the game on the ensuing extra point by Alex Todd.
Danville coach Jayme Comer told the Indy Star —
“Part of our complaint is that there was no flag on the field. We go through the handshake line. At what point is the game over? The officials didn’t leave the field. We feel like they were persuaded to stay on the field and give the call that they did. That’s the part we’re most frustrated with. Everybody I’ve talked to has said, ‘There’s no way in hell you make that call.
We rank these officials every Saturday morning. That was not the crew that had been getting ratings all year by the coaches. It was thrown together in a big-time game for the first time.”

Does the complaint have a chance of being overturned, past history with state associations shows that the majority of the time they will support the officials call. They might confirm it was the wrong call…but don’t look for this to be overturned by the IHSAA.
Just remember….
The IHSAA selects tournament brackets in a blind draw using ping-pong balls

In the modern era of the game THIS CALL has never decided a game. If replayed, it would actually show that the first person on the field…….is the BJHS COACH! Coming to congratulate Danville’s coaching staff.
