(6-11-25) The Celina City Schools Board of Education is set to hire Celina grad Kelli Wiiliams as its new Athletic Director.

The BOE will vote on Williams at an upcoming Special Meeting this coming Monday.

Williams, who will be the first woman to be the Celina AD, will replace Derek Wenning who resigned in early May.

After graduation from Celina…Williams earned her undergraduate degree at Ashland University, while at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania she picked up her Master’s Degree in Education.

In 2012 Williams became an assistant softball coach at D-III Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., following that she became the head coach of the Wheeling Jesuit University team from 2013-2016.

In 2016 Williams was named a member of the Celina High School Hall of Fame.

In 2017 she took over as the Head Coach at Heidelberg University softball team and coached three seasons…finishing her coaching career with a 147-134-1 record.

In 2019 she became the Athletic Director at Bucyrus High School.

In an interview after taking the Bucyrus position she was asked by the Telegraph Forum

So then what got you into coaching from there? Is that something you had always wanted to do?

KW: Actually no, I had always wanted to be an athletic director. I went to school for education knowing this is where I wanted to be. I really enjoyed teaching, making an impact on kids.
