Stephen Sedesse

(10-9-25) Williams Valley (Pennsylvania) Football Head Coach Stephen Sedesse resigned on Monday, midway through the season. Also stepping down was his father, Mike, who was the team’s defensive coordinator.

The trouble started taking place when arguments and confrontations with parents started to take place following Williams Valley’s 43-29 loss to 2A # 1 Schuylkill Haven on September 26 at Stauffenberg Field in Williamstown.

Unsportsmanlike behavior during and after the game prompted the Williams Valley coaching staff to suspend two of its top players.

The players were suspended for the first half of last Friday’s Schuylkill-Colonial Blue Division win over Panther Valley, a 35-14.

pennlive.com said that school administrators suspended Sedesse and his father for two games this past Monday morning for sitting the players longer than they were previously told.

Both Sedesse and his father promptly resigned.

“I decided Monday morning that, if my business going to get threatened, if my family is going to get threatened, it’s small school football, I don’t need to have that in my life.”

“When parents obviously found out we were going to be sitting some kids, we got a lot of backlash, a lot of threats, we were threatened that if their kids don’t start in the game, we would need extra security at the game.”

“We had tires flattened the other night, in my dad’s truck. We had a billboard painted with some derogatory words on it, pretty much the same one I used there about abuse and being abusive and stuff like that.,”

Williams Valley superintendent, Dr. David Hatfield

“The Williams Valley School District confirms that both the Head Football Coach and an Assistant Coach have submitted their resignations, effective immediately.

Williams Valley remains dedicated to fostering a positive, respectful, and encouraging environment where student-athletes can build character, develop leadership, and enjoy the benefits of teamwork. Our goal is to ensure that every interaction—between coaches, players, and families—supports the growth and confidence of our students.

The District looks forward to Athletic Director Mr. Ben Ancheff serving as the interim Head Coach, where his leadership and dedication to student development will help guide the program in a positive direction and reinforce the values of teamwork and respect.

As this matter involves personnel, the District will not be providing further comment.”

Williams Valley (6-1) is currently ranked 6th in 2A. The Vikings went 10-3 in Sedesse’s first season and 12-2 last year and are 28-6 under the coach for the last 2 1/2 years.

The Vikings are scheduled to play at Marian Catholic tomorrow night.
