(7-30-26) Pell City and Mary G. Montgomery’s football programs will remain under its current Alabama High School Athletic Association sanctions after the AHSAA Central Board of Control took no action during Wednesday’s meeting in Montgomery.

Reporters and other AHSAA staff members were told to leave during Pell City and Mary G. Montgomery’s presentations during a meeting that lasted nearly eight hours total on Wednesday.

AHSAA executive director Heath Harmon declined to comment on the specifics of the Central Board’s decision.

THE AHSAA DID NOT DROP THE SUSPENSIONS

Both football programs remain ineligible for the 2026 playoffs.

The AHSAA recruiting rule allows for restrictive probation, a postseason ban and a one-year coaching suspension. That is exactly what happened here.

Pell City will prepare to appeal to the District 6 Board.

Harmon also said that changes were made to the AHSAA private school postseason during the meeting, but again declined to share specifics and said the bracket would be sent out. Sources indicate all 16 teams in the AHSAA’s Double-A private school division will make the football playoffs. Originally, only eight would have qualified.
