(10-8-26) Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School in Oregon, Ohio will close at the end of December 2026, school leadership announced today in a letter from Principal Malinda Siers and Board Chairperson Very Reverend Scott S. Woods.

The reason: only 69 high school students remain, and enrollment and financial challenges have made continuing impossible.

Key detail — the closure is the high school only (grades 9–12). The Pre-K through 8th grade Kateri Catholic Academy stays open.

The plan: the Board has asked Bishop Daniel Thomas to approve the closure, and leaders are working with Central Catholic High School so students can continue Catholic education starting in January. Classes were canceled Friday so families can process the news, with counselors and Central Catholic reps on campus. Homecoming Dance goes on as planned.

In athletics- School president Bill Berry announced on July 28 that Cardinal Stritch, which transitioned to eight-man football to start the 2025 season, will not have a fall season for the third time in five years.

Cardinal Stritch was scheduled to open its boys basketball season on December 1st against Perkins.
