(11-16-2017) Last season Riverdale won the SSN National Public HS Girls Basketball Rankings, so it is only fitting that they start the season out as the #1 ranked team this year.
Riverdale has won back-to-back Tennessee large school championships and they return five Division I type players, including two sisters of Anastasia Hayes who is now playing at Tennessee.

- Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), 34-0 2016-2017 record
- Mercer County (Harrodsburg, Ky.), defending Kentucky state champions have Returning – Seygan Robins (Louisville)
- Northwest Guilford (NC) North Carolina Class 4-A State champion – Returning starters: G Lindsay Gauldin, 5-9, Sr.; F Bria Gibbs, 6-0, Sr.; C Elizabeth Kitley, 6-4, Jr., plus Page transfer G Reagan Kargo, 5-9, Soph., who was the All Metro Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. The Vikings do have three key players out with knee injuries, G Thalia Carter, G Cayla King, and G Tiffani Thorpe.
- North Little Rock (Ark.) Key players returning, 6’2 Yomyris Morris (TCU) and Junior Kennady Tucker
- Collins Hill (Suwanee, Ga.) Returning players 6-4 Jada Rice and two Juniors Javyn Nicholson (committed to Georgia) and Bria Harmon (committed to Purdue)
- Iowa City West (Iowa) was 5A state semifinalist last year and return Iowa commit Logan Cook, (6-1, Sr.) who averaged 15.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season. Class 5A 1st-team INA all-state and Creighton commit Rachael Saunders (5-8, Jr) who averaged 12.4 points and 2.1 assists per game and shot 74.6 percent from the free-throw line. Class 5A 3rd-team INA All-State.
- Baldwin (N.Y.) New York State Class AA public school champions, led by a group of Seniors – Donnetta Johnson (Georgia), Aziah Hudson (Old Dominion) and Jenna Annecchiarico (Eastern Michigan).
- Hopkins (Minnetonka, Minn.), Only lost one game last season and that came in the 4A state title game, led by Sophomore Paige Bueckers, a 5-’10 point guard
- Kentridge (Kent, Wash.) Defending 4A State champions led returning post players Jordyn Jenkins and JaQuaya Miller
- Mesquite (Gilbert, Ariz.) Two DI committed guards return, Shaylee Gonzales (BYU) and Lindsey VanAllen (Santa Clara)
