Adam Niemeyer

OSU Athletic Department Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fifth-year senior right-handed pitchers Adam Niemeyer and Kyle Michalik have been named captains for the 2018 Ohio State baseball team, head coach Greg Beals announced Tuesday. The duo, selected as captains by their teammates, has combined to appear in 100 career games.

“The vote went as expected by the coaching staff as Adam and Kyle were chosen by their teammates. These two young men have weathered five years of success and adversity. They embody the core values of our program. They both played key roles on our championship team of 2016 and their leadership will be key to a championship run in 2018.”

Minster grad Niemeyer is a two-time captain returning for his fifth and final season in the Scarlet and Gray. After redshirting the 2014 season following Tommy John surgery, Niemeyer was named a 2015 Big Ten All-Freshman selection, going 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA in 33.1 innings of work. In 2016, the right-hander went 4-2 with a 4.31 ERA in 14 starts and helped guide the team to the 2016 Big Ten Tournament title and an NCAA regional appearance. He struck out 70 batters to 12 walks in 71.0 innings pitched. Last season, Niemeyer fanned 23 batters in 34.2 innings of work in 10 appearances on the mound. A 2017 Bucks Go Pro intern, the finance major is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.

“It’s an honor to put on the Scarlet and Gray every day and means so much to be voted captain by my teammates. I can’t wait to get the season started and compete for a Big Ten title with the rest of the guys.”
