(1-3-18) Lexi Dellinger (5’5 Sr PG) scored 15 points last night in a loss at Bellmont.  But for Dellinger it was a big night in her career as she became the all-time Starfires career leading scorer (1,126) passing Athena Sherwood (1994-1997, 1,124). Dellinger has been a steady leader during her four years on the South Adams varsity.

Her coach Brett Freeman looks back on Lexi’s journey to this point in her career:

Everyone at the top of a scoring list has obviously put time into their game and worked hard to reach such a great accomplishment. Lexi has gone above and beyond to reach this level. She’s small in stature, but big in heart and effort. She fears no one on the court. Her desire to be the best player she can be has driven her to this point. She’s put countless hours into improving her game.

In the past 2 seasons Lexi has lead us in scoring, but even more impressive is that she’s lead us in assists the past 3 seasons. She’s done a great job balancing between scorer and distributor. On top of the offensive strengths, Lexi has been one of our best defenders for 4 years. She has typically drawn the assignment to guard their best perimeter player. She does everything she can to help her team win. The most important stat to her at the end of the night is if we won.

I’m very lucky to have coached her for 4 years. She has been an amazing player, person, leader, and team mate. I can think of no better person to be sitting at the top of the South Adams Girls Basketball scoring list.

Each new point for the rest of her senior year will be a new record, she will long be remembered by Starfire fans in the future.
