(3-4-18) – Rockford, Illinois – Long-time RPS 205 Athletic Director Mike Armato is no longer in charge at Jefferson. According to RPS 205 it is a “personnel matter”, the standard answer in the past from the school system. No official word yet on Armato’s employment status or word on who will be the next AD.

Armato, who has been at Jefferson for just 15 months, had been the long-time AD at East before making the move. Armato replaced Cory Espensen in the middle of the last school year, Espensen, who had a short stay in the position,  was brought in to replace Todd Zimmerman (“personnel matter”). Espensen, after a short stay at Jefferson,  decided to return to Rockford University and the position he had held before joining RPS 205.

This school year has seen a lot of turmoil for the J-Hawks, including terminating football coach Ken DuBose, which led to players not participating in several practices in protest as the pre-season started, to not being able to field a girls basketball program and cancelling their schedule just before the start of the season (no reasons were given).

The constant change of athletic directors and veteran coaches in the system is nothing new. Auburn has had numerous AD changes since the current administration came into power and replacing varsity coaches is just as active.

The next big change at Jefferson could see a high-profile varsity coach moving on to another out of district NIC 10 school, according to several sources close to the situation.
