What will I8’s next move be? Stay tuned…..
(3-20-18) The Interstate 8 Conference recently added Sycamore from the remaining NIB 12 membership. Today the news is not good for the conference now that Geneseo has announced it will consider joining the Western Big 6, after many thought they had committed to joining the I8.
To add to that, Sterling, one of four remaining NIB 12 members will discuss joining the Western Big 6 as well.
That would leave the three remaining NIB 12 members to find a new conference home.
The WB6 was formed in 1969 with the same six schools-
- Rock Island
- United Township
Should the two schools decide to join WB6 the road trips for Quincy would be substantial:
- Sterling is a 200 mile trip one way
- Geneseo is a 85 mile trip one way
Geneseo is holding a special BOE meeting tomorrow night to possibly accepting the invitation, while the Sterling BOE will discuss it and a vote could come at a later date on the possibility of joining.
For the NIB 12 remaining schools, DeKalb, Kaneland and Yorkville, they still face an uncertain future as they all continue their searches for a permanent conference home.
Did Sycamore know about Geneseo possibly leaving the I8 and leaving the conference at seven members?
Does the I8 give DeKalb a call to put the membership back at eight?
