(5-15-18) The Delphos City School Board of Education named Kent Smelser as the new athletic director at Jefferson High School during Monday night’s meeting replacing current AD Dave Hoffman.

Smelser served as the Van Wert High School athletic director from 1998-2017. He was Van Wert’s varsity football head coach from 1990-95 and an assistant coach from 1999-2003 and again in 2017. His football coaching experience dates back to 1978 where he worked as an assistant at Celina. He also has coached freshman basketball, served as a varsity track assistant and coached junior high wrestling.

He graduated from Celina High School and received his bachelor of science in education from Bowling Green State University and a masters from Miami University.

Smelser was named the Western Buckeye League commissioner in 2016 after replacing Dave May who passed away and remains in that position today.
