Kaneland School Board discussing athletic conferences at May 14th meeting

From a story today by the Kane County Chronicle:

it appeared as if Kaneland had another option with the Northern Illinois (NIC-10) conference, but recently learned that that league would not be offering Kaneland a contract

Jill Maras,  Kaneland Principal

“They shared they believed it wasn’t a good fit.”

The information was reported at the district’s board meeting on May 14, which also approved the high school’s membership in the Interstate Eight Conference for one season in 2019-20.

In an email reply to SSN, Freeport Principal and NIC 10 President Dr. Beth Summers told us this:

There is no update at this time.  We expect a decision before the end of May.

According to DeKalb AD Nic Kearfott in an email to SSN:

We haven’t heard anything from the NIC 10.  We hope to hear something in the near future.  They said we would know by the end of the month.

Kearfott, who will be leaving the Barbs program at the end of the school year for Bloomington Community, is hoping to find a conference home before he leaves for his new position.

Current Kaneland AD Peter Goff, will replace Kearfott as the new AD at DeKalb.
