(9-7-18) The Bluffton (Indiana) Varsity Football Team has forfeited their opening wins over Northfield and Manchester due to an ineligible player competing in those games.  The error was discovered this week. The BHS Athletic Department immediately notified the athletic departments at Northfield and Manchester as well as the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).  This mistake was not caused by the player, his family, or anyone associated with the Bluffton football coaching staff.

The Tigers beat Northfield 40-12 on opening night and beat Manchester 36-21 during week 2. Last week in the ACAC opener they lost to South Adams 21-3. Tonight they play Woodlan. With the two forfeit losses added they are now 0-3 on the season.

Why they reported….

The BHS Athletic Department chose to report the violation because we live by the same code of choosing the difficult right over the easy wrong that we teach our student-athletes to uphold at all times.

Even though the IHSAA has issued a ruling, the Commissioner ended his letter by commending Bluffton High School for self-reporting this violation.  Unfortunately, these forfeits alter the football team’s record, but it does not change the attitude and effort that our young men have displayed on and off the field each day.
