(10-20-18) Next Friday night IFCA #2 ranked Adams Central (10-0) will take on IFCA #5 ranked Churubusco (9-1) in round 2 of the IHSAA football 1A Section 43  sectionals.

You may want to arrive early for this game, as both teams concentrate on the ground game.

For Churubusco they will face their 2nd rank team in the first two games of the sectionals, they beat IFCA state ranked #8 South Adams last night 28-21. While Adams Central beat Northfield 34-23.

The Eagles were led by Gage Kelly who finished with seven carries for 112 yards and two TDs (39 and 61 yards), while Nathaniel Keener racked up 109 yards on 23 carries. Tom Richards completed 6 of his 9 pass attempts for 42 yards.

While the Eagles concentrated on ground control, South Adams Sophomore QB James Arnold finished with 327 yards passing.

The win for Churubusco was preserved when  Joey Emenhiser intercepted Arnold at the 20-yard line and the 28-21 first-round Class A Sectional win.

Adams Central advanced to play Churubusco next week after beating Northfield 34-23

Adams Central ran the ball 47 times for 330 yards (7.0 avg). Logan Macklin ran for 197 yards with a TD, Jalen Hammond picked up 103 yards and a TD. QB Parker Bates scored the first two TDs for the Jets.

Northfield Coach Baker told the Wabash Plain Dealer after the game:

Then we had a guy (Macklin) corralled and he reverses out right before half and scores a touchdown.

Again, (Macklin is) one of the best running backs in the state. We can’t simulate how he’s going to be in practice.

Southwood is 10-0 and was ranked #3 in the last IFCA poll. Fremont is 2-8 after their win over Southern Wells, avenging a season opening loss to the Raiders 42-0.

Four IFCA ranked teams started the playoffs in Section 43, South Adams has already been eliminated, next week at least one more will be eliminated.  If Southwood wins this week, the Sectional final will feature two ranked teams, with just one moving on to the next level.
