(3-7-19) Mount Carmel is the only Illinois member of the all-Indiana Athletic Conference, the Big 8. This week has changed all of that for both sides.
Earlier this week the Big 8 Hoosier members decided to remove Mount Carmel as a conference member after the 2019-20 school year. Just after that announcement Mount Carmel announced they would leave after this current school year.
The new Illinois football district plan was the main reason for the changes.

Big 8 News Release
The Big Eight had decided to part ways with the Golden Aces because of scheduling changes coming to Illinois football. The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) will require district scheduling for its members to qualify for the state tournament beginning in two years. The vote was 7-0, including Mt. Carmel.
The Big 8 said they would honor existing contracts in all sports through the next school year (19-20).
Mount Carmel News Release
“Due to schedule hardships, Mount Carmel High School felt it would be in their best interest to pursue other options. When pursuing these options, it became clear that finding six one-year contests was not feasible. However, finding opponents that were willing to schedule Mount Carmel for two years became a viable option. One of the athletic department’s top priorities through this process has been to ensure that our student-athletes are offered the opportunity to play full schedules in the upcoming season.
Mount Carmel has enjoyed its time as a Big Eight Conference member, and looks forward to continued partnerships with the remaining Big Eight schools.”
