(3-16-19) Ohio High School basketball lit up twitter yesterday when national TV analyst Jay Bilas posted the following and received an answer from OHSAA Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass in a tweet.
Bilas was commenting on an article that appeared on the Dayton Sports Huddle – OHSAA upholds Marchal suspension without comment or explanation
Why the fuss? Centerville senior point guard Ryan Marchal was given two technical fouls in the last 1:09 of their win over Springfield in the Regional semifinal earlier this week. OHSAA rules will force Marchal to sit out Saturday’s Regional final game with Cincinnati Moeller, plus the State semifinal game if the Elks beat Moeller.
According to the Dayton Sports Huddle article , Centerville AD Rob Dement, who had filed an appeal was informed that the OHSAA had denied the Elks’ appeal and ruled that it will uphold the decisions of the referees,
Dayton Sports Huddle, according to the article, reached out to the OHSAA seeking comment on the video footage and asked to interview the administrator who was in charge of the basketball officials for an explanation on why the technicals were called and why the suspension was upheld. The response they received from a spokesperson (no name given):
“We have not seen the video yet and won’t be able to process the ejection report until next week. We are conducting the girls basketball state tournament this week.”
The above statement contradicts what Snodgrass said in his reply to Bilas.
In question by the Sports Huddle are the two technicals that were called to force Marchal to sit out two games.
Below you can see the video and the calls in question of the final minute, Marchal is #0 in the dark uniform.
Post season refs by the OHSAA in all the games boys and girls has been some of the worst I’ve seen even at the pee wee level of sports! These refs should all be ashamed as well as the Ohsaa association! Ryan Marchal better be playing come Saturday. Flat out terrible refs!!!!! pic.twitter.com/liYFFWGu4W

Make No Mistake, Snodgrass, like Beau Rugg, their Little Toadie Mouthpiece, Ben Ferree, are only and the Hierarchy, and only interested in the own Power over a Bloated Association, that collects fees, rules over schools, student athletes, and officials, while collecting large fees to enforce phony rules and to keep the “Good Ol Boy” system in place.
Until and when, Ohio High Schools have the guts to put this power/money hungry outfit out of power, nothing will change…
Just another one of the reasons, that officials are getting out of the Business of OHSAA ruled events..after all, why pay feeds for licenses and overpriced uniforms, while OHSAA gets kickbacks, and rules the roost, when there are so many Non OHSAA events and sports to officiate without their Iron Fists in Control?

I don’t know how those “typos” came about, let me say “sorry about those” … my point in the above post was not to demean all OHSAA Officials {I was one for over 4 decades in Baseball and umpired at every tournament level} and well over a decade in Football and Basketball, officiating all levels up to and including Varsity at both of those sports.
I do however stand by my “Good Ol’ Boy” system which was on display in the State Football Tournament this past year, and can be seen any night in the current basketball tournament…a fish rots from the Head Down, and the so called “Leadership” at OHSAA it the fish head in this and other cases.

After reviewing the short clip of the game, I gleened that the officials had little control at the point where the tecnical foul was called. It may have been verbal however the compartment of the situation was ill advised by the officiating crew.
Having officiated in the state of Ohio for 20 years a few years back and at the highest level it was obvious to this writer the officials did not take the required steps to bring this game into control.
