(6-7-19) If you like fast paced baseball and dominant pitching the OHSAA D IV State Semifinal Baseball game in Akron was made just for you. In the end Hillsdale would hang on to beat Minster 1-0 and advance to their first ever state final game against the Antwerp-Toronto winner on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Both starting pitchers were dominant during the seven inning pitching battle with Hillsdale’s Jay Luikart coming away with the win. Luikart would hold the Wildcats to just 2 hits, 3 walks and striking out 9. Minster’s Austin Brown was just as impressive giving up just one run on 3 hits and walking 3, with 5 strike outs. Neither team had an extra base hit. It doesn’t get much better then that.
The only run of the game came in the top of the second inning when Briar Funk led off the inning with a single, went to second on a walk to Ty Williams, moved to third on a Garrett Crites sacrifice bunt and Funk scoring on a sacrifice fly from Evan Rottman to center field.

Minster, despite just five base runners in the game, had scoring opportunities twice during the night. The Wildcats would load the bases with two outs in the fourth inning, while in the fifth inning they stranded a runner on third base, but was unable to bring home a run.
Garrett Goodwin, Luikart and Funk had the hits for the Falcons, while Noah Enneking had a hit and a walk and Jacob Niemeyer added the other hit for Minster.
After the win Hillsdale is 29-2 and Minster ends the season at 22-9.
