(6-27-19) The Tri-City Dust Devils (6-7) picked up a 5-2 win over the Spokane Indians (9-4) last night at Avista Stadium in Spokane. Starting pitcher Nick Thwaits (1-1) of Ft. Recovery earned his first win of the season after allowing just two runs in six innings of work.
After Thwaits surrendered two runs to the Indians in the first inning, Thwaits, Dan Dallas and Deacon Medders combined to keep Spokane scoreless of the final eight frames. Medders slammed the door shut on the Indians in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the first save of his professional career.
On the nights Thwaits gave up 6 hits, 2 earned runs, struck out 3 and walked 2. On the season in 3 starts and 14.1 innings he has a 3.77 ERA, with 14 K’s, 4 walks and a 1,12 WHIP.
Matthew Acosta extended his hitting streak to a Northwest League-high 11 games with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. The win secures the first series victory of the season for the Dust Devils and sets up a chance for the sweep of the Indians.
