Media reports verify that Elida Head Football Coach Bill Speller has stepped down after he was put on administrative leave after his team lost to Bath two weeks ago.

Elida Athletic Director Dave Evans sent an email Wednesday-

“We understand that coaches can and should be hard on players to challenge them to be their best. However, we believe Coach Speller has gone over the line. Therefore we decided to file a formal complaint with the school based on the following actions by Coach Speller. That we have witnessed.”


 

 

 

(9-16-19) According to a tweet from WIMA’s Todd Walker Elida Football Coach Bill Speller has been placed on paid administrative leave. The Bulldogs lost to WBL rival Bath 6-0 in a wild finish on Saturday night. The win for Bath broke a 21 game consecutive losing streak.

 

The Lima News obtained a letter, apparently from players on the team, alleged Speller used verbal abuse and bullying tactics, as well as encouraging players to physically harm opponents.
