(9-23-19) D-I: St. Ignatius has made the Ohio High School Athletic Association Playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons and 7 of the last 8. But after being absolutely embarrassed by DeMatha Catholic, 42-0, we have to question if the #5 team in the state of Ohio is going to be sitting at home come November.
D-II: Winton Woods is the host in what is the game of the week among the big schools in Ohio. The Warriors, outscoring their opponents 149-14 so far, get St. Eds on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are in the top 5 of the Projection Index going into Week 5.
D-III: Trotwood-Madison has 3 wins against winless teams and 1 loss against an undefeated team. And while the Projection Index likes them as a team, the OHSAA computers have them down in 13th in Region 12. Their Friday contest against Northmont will be important in impressing the computers that would get the Rams into the playoffs.
D-IV: Van Wert hosts Ottawa-Glandorf on Friday in what could be a play-in game for the OHSAA Playoffs. The host Cougars have a 58% chance of getting into the postseason while the Titans are at 46%. Big points are on the line in this WBL contest.
D-V: Very little movement at the top of D-V this past week. If I had to pick a team to win 15 teams, it would be the Kirtland Hornets, who won’t be challenged until they face Manchester or South Range in the playoffs.
D-VI: If St. Eds-Winton Woods is the game of the week for the big schools, then Marion Local at Anna is the game of the week for the small schools. The host Rockets are a slight favorite as the top rated teams from D-VI and D-VII meet in what will probably decide the MAC Championship.
D-VII: I said last week that New Bremen’s game against Fort Recovery was practically a must-win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Same thing this week as they travel to St. Henry. If the Cardinals can improve to 4-1, there are enough winnable games to see them into the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
