(9-22-19) This Friday night in Adams County two of the top small school football teams in Indiana will do battle…South Adams at Adams Central.
Adams Central was ranked #2 and South Adams was ranked #3 in last week’s AP Class A poll. Both are 2-0 in the ACAC standings and both have wins over #6 Monroe Central (who is 3-2). Both teams have wins over three common opponents (Monroe Central, Bellmont and Heritage).
In South Adams win over Monroe Central on Friday Starfires’ quarterback James Arnold completed 19-of-32 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns. Drew Stutzman had eight catches for 133 yards, while Nick Miller, Aidan Wanner and Trey Schoch had the other three touchdown receptions.
Adams Central’s Dallas Schwaller has been a two-way star (QB, CB) for the Flying Jets. On Friday night in a 35-6 win over Heritage Schwaller threw for a 169 yards and a touchdown.
The Flying Jets also picked up a special teams score against Heritage when Ben Voirol had a 53-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Earlier this season after the Eastside win, Adams Central Head Coach Michael Mosser told the Decatur Daily Democrat:
“Dallas does a great job, of knowing his abilities and just leading this team. He has been waiting for his time on this team to play this (QB) position. He did an outstanding job tonight with this throws and carrying the ball and his defense even.”
Many thought this would be a rebuilding season for Adams Central, the Flying Jets have won five straight in the series by an average of 30 points, including a 49-12 win last season. But don’t look for South Adams Head Coach Grant Moser and his Starfires to overlook Adams Central.

For those not familiar with Indiana HS football, every team in Indiana qualifies for the playoffs, that is why the Hoosier state has just a 9-game regular season schedule. Each sectional is a ‘blind draw’ and no teams are seeded.
The good news for these two rivals is that they are in different Sectionals this season after two years together, with Adams Central moving to Sectional 44. Before that South Adams was in Class 2A.
Sectional 43. (8): Madison-Grant, Monroe Central, South Adams, Southern Wells, Taylor, Tri-Central, Union City, Wes-Del
Sectional 44. (8): Adams Central, Caston, Churubusco, Fremont, North Miami, Northfield, Southwood, Triton
