D-I: Right now, Mentor, St. Edward, and St. Ignatius are the top three rated teams in the division. Given that you can drive between all three schools in about an hour, the OHSAA put them all in Region 1, preventing the possibility of the two best D-I teams from meeting in Canton. Heading to the southwest, Sycamore at Hamilton, a battle of 4-4 teams, could very well decide who gets the #8 seed in Region 4 (and a rematch at Fairfield)
D-II: It’s crazy that Winton Woods has gone from one of the top teams in the state to risky their playoff bubble bursting. The Warriors are 1-3 in their last 4 and are currently 10th in Region 8. If they lose to La Salle this weekend (I can’t get away from the Lancers), they are probably out with no Week 10 game.
D-III: Region 9 is absolutely loaded. Based on average team rating, the northeastern region is better than every single region in D-II. There are still 13 teams who a chance at the playoffs with only 4 spots locked up. And while the other victors of the other 3 regions are predictable (Norwalk, Bishop Hartley, Trotwood-Madison), Heaven only knows who will emerge out of Region 9.
D-IV: The Projection Index has pushed Clinton-Massie ahead of Wyoming after outscoring their opponents 112-0 in the past two weeks. But the parity is strong in Region 16, with the likes of Indian Hill and Kenton more than capable of pulling a minor upset once we get to the playoffs in November.
D-V: The sky is blue, taxes are still a thing, and Kirtland is still undefeated and the strong favorite to run the table in D-V once we get to playoff time.
D-VI: In 2001, Newcomerstown went a perfect 10-0 and missed out on the OHSAA D-IV playoffs. And unless Allen East or Fairview lose within the next two weeks, Gibsonburg, who will go undefeated, may join them as the only schools to go 10-0 and miss the playoffs since the expansion to 32 teams per division.
D-VII: One of the teams that can help Gibsonburg is Crestview. The Knights need a win at Allen East this week to keep their playoff hopes alive. A win would also allow Gibsonburg to leapfrog Allen East. Mathematically, this is Gibsonburg’s most likely route into the postseason.
