(12-27-19) Pending board approval, former Bellefontaine head football coach Toby Smith will be named the new head football coach at Lima Sr and will teach physical education.

Smith resigned his coaching position at Bellefontaine after seven seasons in early December, during that time the Chieftians went 46-27, won four Central Buckeye Conference league titles (’14, ’16, ’17’ and ’18) and qualified for the playoffs twice (’14 and ’17).They finished last season 6-4 and 2-3 in conference play.

This past season Smith was suspended for two games after he drank alcohol at “Chalk Talk” in front of players.

Before taking over the Bellefontaine job Smith was the head coach at West Liberty-Salem for 14 years and was 111-40, including four 10-0 seasons.

Lima Sr non-renewed Head Coach Andre Griffin in late November after four seasons, the Spartans went 3-7 last season.
