(4-24-20) – The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is helping student-athletes out during the current coronavirus pandemic by making a change to its physical guidelines.
The IHSAA is allowing athletes to count their 2019-20 physicals towards the 2020-21 athletic season, meaning that athletes do not have to get a new physical to play sports next year. The ruling applies to middle school and high school athletes.
This subject came up this past week when the Ohio High School Athletic Association Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass addressed the same issue:
We’re also talking about that, if this does go through the summer, what is the likelihood that a student can get in to get a physical (annual medical exam). We have a sport medicine advisory group that is looking at that. They are looking at all aspects such as whether artificial surfaces need to be treated. We are relying on the advice of experts in our decision making.
