(7-18-20) Late yesterday afternoon Ohio Governor Mike DeWine posted the above Tweet. It seems a little ominous for the fate of football in Ohio in 2020.
The OHSAA had just sent out a memo to school administrators that stated –
To begin and to reiterate, the OHSAA Office is moving forward with the normal start of the fall sports season
But later in the same paragraph –
As you all have seen during this pandemic, those plans can be modified or cancelled quickly
Many in Ohio thought the Governor was going to make an announcement during his Statewide Address on Wednesday night. Depending who you talked to it was a disappointment to many who thought it was either a pep talk to wear your mask or a scolding for not doing your best to stop the spread of the virus.
The Governor’s text leaves many to wonder if there will be football this fall, most will be happy to just have the Governor make an announcement on the next step.
While Ohio waits for that decision other states have made those choices, including Michigan and Iowa on Friday.
Ohio high school football fans will be watching the scoreboard…the Governor’s COVID 19 numbers, that will decide what happens. With 19 Ohio counties at Level 3 and having mandatory masks to wear, it looks a little bleak. This week should be the week everyone finds out the fate for 2020.
