(2-4-21) Years from now high school basketball fans will talk about the pandemic season and what teams faced during that season.
Tuesday night’s game between Riverton Parke and South Putnam will be one game they might remember.
It was the opening game of the IHSAA Girls’ Basketball Class 2A Sectional No. 44. Riverton Parke’s varsity was in quarantine, their opponent South Putnam had not played a game for three weeks, that was a win over Riverton Parke 84-30, because of being in quarantine.
As pandemics go it was only right that the two teams would meet again on Tuesday night (2-2-21) in tournament play…the first game for South Putnam after being quarantined.
The Eagles easily beat Riverton Parke 97-17 to move on in tournament play. …the Panthers had just one varsity player and five JV players.
Known as the ‘Fab 5’ the freshman started their first game on January 25th to continue the pandemic season.
It would have been easy for Riverton Parke to shut down for the rest of the season…but they didn’t let COVID 19 do that to them. Playing the games was more important then who won and who lost.
Norman Dale said it best…
Senior Lindsey Peterson supported the ‘Fab 5’ even though she missed her Senior Night during the quarantine.
