(3-5-21) Celina native Eric Carr continues to have success in Oklahoma, last night his Piedmont Wildcats hung on to beat Shawnee 50-47 and advance to their third consecutive 5A State Tournament in Tulsa.
For Carr it is a family affair…his daughter Khole plays for her dad…
He posted this on his Facebook page after the game –
I’m always a team first guy, but I’m going to be a proud dad tonight. I love this kid and her heart! It’s not easy playing for Dad, but she handles it with so much maturity! Dreams come true when hard work happens! Super proud!! Journeys not over! Let’s go win this thing!!
While his mom Diane posted this on Facebook –
I’m so happy for both of you , heck the whole family. I know this has been a dream since Koko could walk and bounce a basketball. We are behind you all the way! Love you Eric, you make me proud.
The entire Carr family needed this season…as they all have had heavy hearts at the recent loss of Coach Carr’s dad, Mark. He was known as ‘Poppy’ by his grandkids, he passed away on December 2nd, after a brief battle with an aggressive form of colon cancer.
Mark, who graduated in 1972, from Celina (Ohio) was a member of the only Bulldogs team to play in the Ohio State Finals in 1972. That team was considered one of the best to ever come out of Celina.
For the Carr family…going to state is a family tradition.
How the Wildcats advanced last night….
Coach Eric Carr told the Piedmont-Surrey Gazaette after the game –
“We played really well for three and a half quarters,. We didn’t make free throws in the fourth quarter like we needed to. Kaelen Edwards made huge free throws when we needed her to make the plays.”
“It is never easy this time of year, but they got it done and punched their ticket to state.”
Piedmont ‘s state tournament semi-final game will be played at Tulsa Memorial High School. The State final game will be at Oral Roberts University.
The Carr family – ‘Win This One For Poppy’.
