(5-22-21) For the first time this home stand, the Storm (San Diego Padres team) played an entire game without committing a single error or giving up 3 runs…but in the end dropped the pitcher’s duel to the Quakes by a score of 2-0.
Tonight’s game was so heavily pitcher-friendly that even one of the two runs in it came on a soft single to center field.
The two bright spots in the loss tonight, outside of the airtight defense, was the pitching of Nick Thwaits (Ft. Recovery) and Levi Thomas.
Thwaits started the game and cruised through the first 3 innings…the fourth inning was when he was forced to throw 32 pitches but survived the inning. Thwaits pitched 4 innings with 4 strike outs and just 1 earned run. Thomas then piggybacked off of his excellent start by throwing the final 5 innings of the game, striking out 5, and also collecting just 1 earned run.
Thanks to Storm for portions of this story…

Did you know?
Thwaits is the 2nd Mercer County product to play for the Storm…in 2007, 2008 and 2009 Cory Luebke (Maria Stein), a Padres #1 draft choice out of Ohio State, played at Lake Elsinore
Luebke played for the Ft. Wayne Wizards
