(6-20-21) Hononegah made it’s first trip to state in school history in baseball Saturday traveling to Joliet’s DuPage Medical Group Field. They would play Plainfield East in the first semifinal game of the day…the Bengals entered the game with the Cinderella tag placed on them.

For the Indians they would face Sophomore lefty and Notre Dame commit Brady Louck. He would strike out nine of the first 12 batters he faced…he ended up striking out 12 in the six innings he pitched in the 5-3 win. Louck would give up 4 hits, no walks and 3 earned runs. In the 79 pitches he threw, 63 were strikes. Christian Mitchelle would pitch the final inning for the save.
Planifield East had fives hits, including a home run and a RBI double by the 9th place hitter CF Caden Dyhr.
The bright spot for the Indians on offense was Noah Goddard (C) with a 2 run home run in the bottom of the 4th, Braden Sayles went 2 for 3 scoring 2 runs.
Hononegah’s Ryan Anderson picked up his first loss of the season pitching just 4 innings giving up 6 hits, 4 runs, walking 3 and striking out 6. The Indians’ Bowen Smith pitched the last 3 innings holding the Bengals in check.
With the win Plainfield East would take on Lake Park, a 6-5 win in other semifinal in 8 innings, in the Championship game.

So why the Cinderella tag? Plainfield East (19-15) started the season 5-12 and lost the last three games of the regular season. The Bengals entered the playoffs as the No. 13 seed in their sectional.
Plainfield East would finish the day by beating Lake Park 6-5 to capture the IHSA 4A State title. It’s the first state trophy in any sport for Plainfield East, which opened in 2008.
The Bengals jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the title game but allowed five runs in the sixth inning. Christian Mitchelle would come in and pitch the final 1 ⅓ innings for his 2nd save of the day.
At the plate Brady Louck was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored and Mitchelle added two hits, two RBIs and a run for Plainfield East.
