A Tragedy in our U-46 Family
It is with deep sadness that I must inform you that Bartlett High School Junior Alex Czerwik, passed away Tuesday evening. He was involved in a single car crash that involved four Bartlett High students. According to the Bartlett Police Department, two of the other students received life-threatening injuries and are both being treated at area hospitals, and one student received non-life threatening injuries.
No words can convey the depth of our sorrow over the loss of Alex. Please join me in thinking about and praying for Alex, all of the students who are being treated, and their families.
Principal Demovsky has shared news of this tragedy with his staff and with Bartlett High School families. Our crisis team is activated at Bartlett High School, including grief and loss counselors, and is available to assist students and staff for the remainder of today, and again tomorrow beginning 11 a.m. These services will remain available at school for as long as they are needed. They will also be available when the school begins on Aug. 16.
U-46 may be a large school system, but we are also a very tight-knit family. Let us lift up these families in their time of need, and also each other as we process this tragic loss of life.
With deep sadness,
Tony Sanders, Superintendent, School District U-46
