(98-23-21) South Adams announced today the hiring of Hall of Fame Coach Wayne Kreiger to take over the Starfires girls basketball program.

Kreiger has had four state finals appearances between 1977 and 2015, Kreiger won a Class A state title in 2013 while at Canterbury. Before coaching the Cavaliers, Kreiger was the girls basketball coach at Columbia City for 33 seasons, winning 16 Sectional titles and appearing in the 2000 Class 3A state title game. A 2006 inductee into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, Kreiger took over for son Scott with the Canterbury girls basketball program in 2012 and led them to three state finals appearances with the one victory in 2013, followed by a pair of runner-up finishes.

After leaving the girls program, Kreiger rejoined Scott as an assistant for Scott’s Canterbury boys team.

Kreiger went 588-233 overall as a girls basketball coach. Before taking over the Columbia City girls team, he spent four seasons with the Eagles boys program, two as an assistant coach and two as the head coach.
