(9-15-21) COVID 19 has caused many Ohio schools and neighboring states to have to cancel and reschedule football games this year in a minute notice…for Edon it is becoming a weekly deal.

Last week the Bombers made a road trip to Norwalk to play St. Paul…in a ‘wild and wooly’ game in which they lost 45-44. The game was scheduled at the last minute as a result of Edon’s Toledo Area Athletic Conference game at Northwood and St. Paul’s Firelands Conference game vs. South Central both getting canceled because of COVID 19 issues.

St. Paul Coach John Livengood told the Norwalk Reflector after the game about Edon QB Drew Gallehue (39-of-47 passing for 516 yards and 5 TDs)-

It’s precise. He’s a great quarterback, just an absolute stud player. And every one of his receivers are very good. A lot of teams have one or two — Edon has five. And they are big and fast. They execute their offense with precision.

This week, in another last minute scramble to find an opponent, Edon will host Whiteford (Mich). On Tuesday the Bobcats league game with Morenci had been canceled. While Edon’s game with Montpelier also was canceled due to COVID 19.

Whiteford coach and athletic director Jason Mensing said –

“We wanted our kids to play as they only get so many opportunities to do this in their lifetime. We were talking with some other schools but some logistics with enrollment differentiation and other challenges could not be worked through. Fortunately, late Tuesday I received a contact from the athletic director at Edon that they were looking for a game, so we chatted and finalized things today.”

This week’s AP poll, the Bobcats are ranked #2, just one point behind Hudson. The Bombers are not shying away from anyone during changes caused by COVID 19.

The Bobcats are presently 3-0 (Michigan started one week after Ohio) on the season and are members of the Tri-County Conference. Last week they won in a shoot-out over league foe Madison 58-32.

Next week Edon will play Ft. Loramie, a powerhouse in southwest Ohio, the Redskins had to reschedule when a Dayton City League school backed out of the game earlier this season.

A short trip for a big game…

Whiteford is located just northwest of Toledo in Michigan, while Edon is right on the Indiana boarder near Angola. For a last minute deal…it worked out quite well. Especially when you consider that last week it was 128 mile trip to an in-state school in Norwalk…
