(11-22-21) It was a game to be remembered…the 2013 OHSAA D-IV football regional final at Donnell Stadium in Findlay between #1 ranked Kenton and #2 Bryan.

Kenton’s Grant Sherman led ‘Air Mauk’ threw for 486 yards and five touchdowns.

Justin Sawmiller caught 24 passes in the game, which still ranks today second for a single game in Ohio history and had 165 yards receiving with two touchdowns in the win.

The winning play in the game featured both of the Kenton stars…Sherman connected with Sawmiller on an 11-yard pass with 21 seconds remaining to beat Bryan and keep Kenton undefeated at 13-0.

The two QBs in this offensive explosion…Bryan’s Austin Schimmoeller finished with 515 yards of total offense, including 370 passing and a 145 yards rushing, and accounted for five touchdowns. Sherman had 563 total yards, including 486 passing, and accounted for seven scores.

Did you know this….

As one of Coach Mike Mauk’s passing machines, Sherman’s game against Bryan did not make the OHSAA record book, but in 2012 against Shawnee he threw for 684 yards, the all-time Ohio record.
