story submitted by Celina Coach Keith Keifer –
(12-19-21) The tournament was put on by the Wright State Raiders, is to give high school teams an opportunity to bowl on a college level oil pattern. Pattern chose by Wright State Head Coach was Titanium 4244. Not the hardest of college patterns but not the easiest.
As a coach it hard to get an idea of how other teams are doing that are near you. What I thought was a mediocre score of 866 turns out that wasn’t case. Game 915 trends us in the right direction again.
Britt Hole leads the team with 431, while Kobe Piper adds 357 and Kaleb Fishbaugh 345. Britt finished 7th overall, Kobe 30th, Kaleb 36th.
Heading into bakers the boys averaged 179.5 across 8 games qualifying them as the 4 seed.
Championship Round began with a 4 baker total pins to determine the top two advancing seeds from each pod of 4. Celina was paired with the #1, #5, and #8 seed. Going into final baker the top two spots were up for grabs, 51 total pins separated the top from bottom score. Bulldogs dug deep to pull out a win to advance into the semifinals, where we would be eliminated by the #1 and #3 seeds.
I went into this tournament open minded to all possibilities because I know that not all my bowlers are interested in going to the next level. But I couldn’t be more proud of how they handled themselves on the lanes under tough conditions. 3rd place out of 20 teams is a great achievement and hope this a good turning point as we head into the holiday break.
Boys will be back in action Tuesday 5pm at Plaza Lanes hosting Lima Senior.
