Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, Lima Senior High School will be a member of the Toledo City Athletic League.

Lima Senior will join Bowsher, Rogers, Scott, Start, Waite and Woodward high schools, all existing members in the Toledo City League. It is a four-year contract.

Lima Senior joined the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) when it was created in 2011. The conference is dissolving after next school year. Findlay, Fremont, Whitmer and Oregon Clay are joining the Northern Lakes League.

Zell said it was important for the school to join a league as opposed to becoming independent.

“We want our student athletes to be able to compete for league championships and receive league honors.”

Zell said, adding that the new league will present a more competitive playing field for all sports at Lima Senior.

The Toledo league has fewer schools than the TRAC, which will allow Lima Senior to schedule more local contests, a benefit to student athletes, families and fans.

Zell said the school could possibly still play some of the TRAC public schools, specifically Findlay to continue that longstanding rivalry.

The change will not impact middle school athletics. Those teams will continue to play the teams they already compete against.
