(3-17-22) One of the most successful girls basketball programs in the Rockford area has been dismissed… Head Coach Paul Perrone. A 1968 Boylan graduate…Perrone has led Boylan the past 13 seasons leading the Titans to a 298-86 record, the most of any girls coach in Boylan history. During that time he has won eight regionals, three sectionals and four NIC-10 titles. The Titans won seven regional titles in a row before losing in the finals to Burlington Central this year and finishing 21-9.
Perrone feels he was dismissed due to some of his charity activities over the years, he was told to keep Boylan separate from all of those causes (that he works with) in order to keep coaching the Titans this season…which he did.
Perrone said in an email sent to the media:
“I often hear the school and church talk about compassion, showing respect to others, being kind to one another, and being truthful. In my opinion these values were not given to me.”
He went on to say-
‘They say they want to go in a new direction, but 298-86–what direction do you want to go? It has nothing to do with coaching.’
Perrone is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame since 2019, he has 511 career wins as a head coach.
Perrone’s Coaching Record
- Harlem (14 years) 213-180 (dismissed after 2005 season, most wins as a girls head basketball coach)
- Boylan (13 years) 298-86
Boylan president Amy Ott in an email response to SSN about Perrone’s dismissal-
“This is a human resource issue so I cannot comment further. We thank Mr. Perrone for his many years of service to Boylan Catholic and wish him well. We are actively seeking candidates for the role.”
