
(4-2-22) Westfield and Purdue commit Braden Smith (6’0 G) has been named the 2022 Indiana Mr. Basketball. Smith edged out (128-109) future Boiler teammate Fletcher Loyer of Homestead by 128 votes.
Smith finished his four year career at Westfield as the all-time leading scorer with 1,629 points and 453 assists. On the season Smith averaged 18.3 points a game, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Smith will wear the #1 jersey during the upcoming Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Game series.
Loyer transferred after his Sophomore season from Clarkston Michigan and would play his final two years for the Spartans at Homestead. This season he scored over 700 points and ended his career (at both schools) with over 2,000 points. Loyer earlier this off-season was named Indiana’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

Lawrence North’s CJ Gunn was third with 57 votes, Central Noble’s Connor Essegian was 4th with 41 votes and Chesterton’s Travis Grayson was 5th with 16 votes. Six other players received (10 or less) votes.
Voters include Indiana high school basketball coaches and media members.
