(5-9-22) It seems the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has its own transfer portal. It is not one that the group has ok’d or approves…but it has already started.

Jonathan Powell and Collin O’Connor

Centerville will graduate five seniors this year from one of the top boys basketball public schools in Ohio and the nation. In 2021 the Elks won the Ohio DI state title, this past season they were state runner-ups. They do return this year’s Mr. Ohio Gabe Cupps, his dad, Brook, is the coach.

According to a Dayton Daily News story two top area prospects have transferred to Centerville and are already working out with the team.

Jonathan Powell and Collin O’Connor enrolled at Centerville in March.

Powell, a 6-foot-6 guard who averaged 16.8 points this past season, played two years at Chaminade Julienne and helped the Eagles reach the D II state tournament as a freshman.

Powell made the move to Centerville from Akron before his freshman season at CJ. He wanted to play for former CJ assistant coach Rich Kidd, who passed away during this past season.

O’Conner, a 6-2 guard and three-year starter averaged 22 points and is the seventh player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points at Tecumseh. He is quite familiar with the Centerville program and has played numerousd times with Cupps during the summer. As a junior this past season O’Conner was named Mr. Basketball in Clark County.

Both players are D I prospects and are getting lots of offers to play at the next level. The two told the paper they were ‘unaware’ they both had plans to transfer to Centerville.
