Lincolnview Headed To Akron To Play In D IV Softball Final Four…Up Next Is Hillsdale

(5-28-22) For the first time in school history Lincolnview will be in the Final Four of the D IV OHSAA Softball Championships in Akron.

The Lancers (24-4) came from behind scoring two runs in the bottom of the 6th to beat Hilltop 3-2 on Saturday in the Regional Final at Clyde.

Lincolnview head coach Eric Schwab told the Lima News after the win –

“These girls all season have not gotten rattled and when we get down we stick together and get back in it and that is what we did in the sixth inning when we scored two and think were 2 for 7 with runners in scoring position and we were missing that big hit all day and finally got that in the sixth inning.”

2022 Hillsdale Regional Champions

• Lincolnview Is State Bound For 1st Time In Program History, Following 3-2 Win Over Hilltop (video highlights)

Hillsdale (23-3) will return to the state tournament for the first time since 2019 after they beat Hopewell-Loudon 6-5 in the Regional final on Thursday.

While it is the first trip for Lincolnview to the Final Four it will be the 17th visit for the Falcons, they have won seven State Champions, including 1979, 1994, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2010, and 2018.

The last trip to the Final Four was in 2019 and Hillsdale coach Hannah Moore mentioned that to the Daily Record after the win –

“It feels like forever, (Hopewell-Loudon is) a good team. It was a battle from inning one to inning seven, and neither team gave up, and that was kind of cool to see.  

“I think both teams had under five strikeouts each, so it was a battle of defense and offense. It was a good game.”

The two will match-up in (June 3rd) Friday afternoon’s D IV State Semifinal game at 12:30 at Akron’s Firestone Stadium, the championship game will be on Saturday June 4th at 4 p.m. The other D IV State semifinal game will feature Bradford taking on Strasburg-Franklin in the first Friday game at 10 am.
