First year Eastside Coach Brennen Kitchen told the Journal-Gazette after the game –
“We’ve got such great players and such great kids here, it’s kind of been our motto in the postseason to ‘Just be you. Just the make the routine plays and we’re going to be fine and they did and we’re moving on, which is unbelievable.”
How good was #10 North Newton? They had eliminated three ranked teams along the tournament trail, defending 2A champion and top-ranked Pioneer and #5 Boone Grove in the sectional and #3 Illiana Christian in the regional championship.
The win gave the Blazers their first semi-state title since they did it in 1998.
North Posey (24-1) who defeated South Vermillion (25-4) 10-0 in five innings on Saturday night to win an IHSAA Class 2A semistate championship and will now play for the 2A state title this coming weekend.
Erin Hoehn, pitched and hit, the Vikings to the win striking out 7 from the circle and hitting 13th home run of the season, a new school record. Lauren Kihn picked up her 18th stolen base of the season, another school record, after getting caught in a rundown between third and home plate a bad throw would allow her to score.
